Home Sweet Firenze
Instagram post for Syracuse Abroad
Hi everyone! My name is Maggie Anderson. I’m a class of ’25 senior this year, majoring in Creative Advertising with minors in Sociology and Design Studies. In fall ’23 I got the chance to study abroad in Florence, Italy — an absolute dream come true! ✈️ 🇮🇹
As my mom’s side of the family is Italian, I’ve always wanted to travel to Italy — cliché I know — not to mention my minor addiction to pasta and bread. 🥖 Needless to say my decision to study in Italy was clear, no questions asked. As you may have guessed, my experience was nothing short of incredible. I spent my semester traveling across Italy and Europe, people-watching in Florence’s Piazza del Duomo, and eating mouth-watering foods. One of my all-time favorite study abroad memories was taking the school-offered pasta-making class! Taught by locals, we heard about the instructors’ own adventures around Italy while hand-making three different pasta dishes. Hands down the lemon ricotta raviolis we made were the best thing I ate my entire time abroad. 🍋
Another cringey cliché incoming — studying abroad changed me. Jokes aside, it was an experience like no other that gave me newfound independence and curiosity. I can’t put into words the excitement I felt every day to explore more and more of the world’s various cultures. Clearly my choice to become a GA was inevitable. If you have any questions or just want some recs feel free to reach out @maggie__anderson__ 💙
P.S. if you have the chance, take the Italian mafia class. The content is extremely interesting and Professor Piombino is wonderful!
